William “Bill” Crawford Kauffman, Sr., known by many as “Bing,” passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on the morning of March 18, 2024. He was a kind, pleasant soul who was adored by his family, friends, and several German Shepherds, throughout nearly 92 years of life. He enjoyed spending time with those loved ones, listening to a catchy song, and sharing a good joke. He will always be remembered for his friendly nature and endless humor.
He was born April 27th, 1932, in Scotland PA, the son of Ambrose and Bessie (Henry) Kauffman. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Marie Huber Kauffman in 1995 and sisters Alma, Ethel, Leona, and Vera.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Frank (Bernie); and son William C. Kauffman Jr.; stepdaughter Susan Brinkman; granddaughter Amanda Cason (Robert); grandson Billy Kauffman (Mary Grace); step-grandchildren John Leonard, Crawford Leonard, Greg Leonard, and Krysi Simon, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Also surviving is his dear friend and companion Marlene Koch.
Bill served in the US Navy during the Korean War aboard the Destroyer USS Lewis Hancock as a Gunner’s Mate. He was employed at Hershey Creamery and Pet Ritz before working as a custodian at Mary B. Sharpe and Andrew Buchanan schools for 25 years, retiring in 1993.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at 2:00 PM, at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., Chambersburg, with Pastor Dale Lehman officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.kelsocorneliusfh.com.
