Aden Eugene "Gene" Diller Obituary

Aden Eugene “Gene” Diller, 75, of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 28, 1949, in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, to Aden Kenneth and Ruth Elizabeth (Shank) Diller, and lived in Greencastle for much of his life. Gene was a 1967 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School.

Gene lived a life marked by deep faith, joyful music, hard work, and unwavering devotion to his family and neighbors. He loved the Lord and spent many years serving as a worship leader in church, sharing his heart through music and inspiring others in their faith. Gene was a member of Cedar Street Mennonite Church and later attended King Street Church, where he built lasting relationships and touched many lives with his musical gifts and leadership. He was the beloved husband of Fern (Frey) Diller, with whom he shared a beautiful life. Together, they raised three sons—Rodney (wife Jann), Ryan (wife Sarah), and Shane (wife Becky)—and Gene was a devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren: Kristen, Lauren, Bryce, Logan, Brady, Blake, and Chase, all of whom brought him immense joy and happiness.

In addition to his immediate family, Gene is survived by his sister Sharon Baer (husband Darrel), sister Esther Martin, and brother James Diller (wife Judy). He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Lester, husband of Esther Martin.

From the age of 8, Gene’s passion for music was a defining part of his life. He began singing with the Diller Family and continued to share his musical gifts through the years, including as a cherished member of the Southern Gospel group Daystar, touching countless lives with his voice and heartfelt worship.

Gene was known throughout Greencastle and beyond as a respected businessman. He worked as a snack distributor with Diller Potato Chips, a role in which he built lasting relationships and earned a reputation for honesty and dependability. He also owned and operated Sunnyspot Apartments, where his tenants knew him as kind, fair, and attentive. Later in life, he found great joy driving a school bus for the Greencastle-Antrim School District, where he delighted in interacting with the children and brightening their daily routines.

Gene will be remembered for his ready smile, big hugs, and the way he made everyone feel important. He had a unique gift for making those around him feel valued, seen, and loved.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, gifted musician, trusted friend, and a valued member of the Greencastle community.  He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service.

The family will receive friends at King Street Church, Chambersburg, PA, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on April 24, 2025.

Funeral services will be held at King Street Church, Chambersburg, PA on April 25, 2025 at 2:30 PM . A private interment will be held at Park Lawn Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg, PA.
