Anna Ruth Knepper, 99, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania passed away September 26, 2021 at Chambers Point Nursing Home. She was born on December 19, 1921 in Mt. Joy, Pennsylvania to Elmer and Rhoda (Martin) Mellinger. Anna Ruth lived her early years in the Mount Joy area. She graduated from Messiah Academy, Grantham, in 1942. She married Abner Knepper in 1944 and resided on a farm in Chambersburg. A homemaker and mother, Anna Ruth also worked at the Duffield school as a cafeteria worker. She was a member of the New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church, where she served as head cook for special events, taught Sunday School and assisted with vacation Bible School. With her husband Abner, she served on the board of Roxbury Camp for many years and were Gideon members for many years.
Anna Ruth is survived by her four children: Donna Faye (wife of David) Spoonhour of Chambersburg, Joyce Elaine (wife of Robert) Fry of Macedonia, Ohio, Dennis Richard (husband of Linda) Knepper of Williamsport, MD, and Cynthia Ann (wife of David) Williamson of Marion, PA. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Abner Knepper in 2008, and by her brothers Martin Mellinger and Jake Stern Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday Oct. 1, 2021 at 11:00AM at the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., Chambersburg. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 till 8:00PM at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment will follow in New Guilford Cemetery.
