Barbara Lynn Turkenton, 79, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away June 7, 2026, at the Chambersburg Hospital after battling cancer. She was born on February 28, 1947, in Newport, Arkansas to Arvil and Wanda (Campbell) McGinnis.
Barbara graduated from Fairfield Union in 1965. She then went to work in Ohio at Cyril-Scott and Anchor Hocking. Later, she moved to Corning, NY where she worked as an executive assistant at Corning Inc. She then settled in Chambersburg, PA and worked as a traffic director for the WKIZ FM Radio broadcasting station until her retirement in 2009.
Barbara was an avid reader. She loved to decorate her house for the holidays and host their annual Christmas dinner, her favorite. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family in her home any chance she could.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Jim Turkenton, children; Grant Bodamer of Lancaster, Ohio, Aaron Turkenton (Krystal) of Roaring Springs, PA and Tamara Turkenton of Pickerington, Ohio, sisters; Fran George (Dave) of Buckeye Lake, Ohio, Kathy Shafer (Chuck) of Lancaster, Ohio and Eddie Jean Rutter (Vince) of Lancaster, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to thank Chambersburg Hospital for their loving care for the last year. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Barbara’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital.
