Becky L. Carnes, 69, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in her home on October 21, 2024. Her husband was by her side. She was born on April 20, 1955, in East Cleveland, Ohio, to the late James S. and Rhoda M. (Carter) Carnes.
Also known as Beck, or as Becky Graywolf, she had a good heart and showed great compassion for others. She had a lifelong dedication to the search for the higher meaning of life and the healing of others.
Beck loved spending time at “Forest Edge Lodge,” the small cabin in the woods outside of Kane, Pa., built by family members around the time of her birth. It is the place she returned to throughout her life, the place where her dogs’ ashes are scattered, and the place where her ashes will return to join them.
She always said that when she passed, there were going to be quite the group of wagging tails on the other side waiting to welcome her home. She loved her dogs (and one cat). That list of faithful companions include Betsy, Gypsie, Shalom, King, Ninja, Shadow, Spike (the cat), Mabel, Odis, Neesa, Coda, and Bandit.
The other love of Beck’s life was children. She spent 19 years in service to the Frances Leiter Center from 1992 until 2011. Beyond the day-to-day support, she was instrumental in ensuring the Center’s annual auctions and Taste of the Valley fundraisers were successes. Beck knew the name and life circumstances of every child that came in the door for counseling, and became friends with so many of them. They all knew her as Ms. Becky.
Becky is leaving behind her husband of 21 years, Michael J. Pruitt; and her sister, Wendy Carnes and husband Howard Albrecht of Shippensburg. Her final faithful companion, Sadie, remains at home with her husband.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the staff of Heartland Hospice for the loving care they provided over the last 7 months.
At Becky’s request, there will be no services. Online condolences may be expressed at www.kelsocorneliusfh.com.
In remembrance of Becky’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter.
