Betty Jane Negley, of Chambersburg, PA, was called to her Heavenly Home June 15, 2024. She was born March 31, 1927 in Washington County, MD. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Alma Orris Forsythe.
She attended Greencastle and Washington Township high schools and Waynesboro Business College.
She was a member of the Upton Church of the Brethren and a Christian since the age of nine. She served as Deaconess for 47 years as a team ministry with her husband Paul E. Negley, whom she married on March 5, 1949. Her first public ministry began at the age of 17 as a chalk artist and was followed by many years of Biblical teaching. She co-coordinated 11 years with her husband for the Annual Church of the Brethren National Holy Spirit Conference and the Full Gospel Men’s Fellowship in Chambersburg.
She was an active member of Women’s Agape Fellowship and International Women’s Aglow where she was a speaker and leader for many workshops. She also served along with Paul over 25 years with the Institute of Church Renewal for Lay Witness Missions, a ministry training persons how to share their faith in Christ in multiple denominations throughout 14 states. Their joy was found in inspiring fresh life to churches throughout the eastern states. Her life’s story, Divine Legacy, was published in 1996 as she obeyed God’s call to “write”.
Betty Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; a sister, Annabelle Zeger; three brothers, Kenneth Forsythe, O. Richard Forsythe, and Galen Forsythe; a daughter, Rosanna Burkholder; and a grandson, Andrew Burkholder.
She is survived by a brother, Vernon Forsythe of Greencastle, PA; a son, Shannon Negley, husband of Marian, of Auburn, ME; daughter, Dr. Katrina Negley, wife of William Reighard, of Woodbury, PA; and Isaac Burkholder, son-in-law, of Chambersburg, PA. She is also survived by five grandsons, Marvin Negley, husband of Ruby of Bowdoin, ME; Darrell Negley, husband of Christie, of Wilmington, DE; Lee Negley, husband of Jeannie, of Greene, ME; Nathaniel Burkholder of Chambersburg, PA; Dr. Stephen Burkholder of Reading, PA; and twelve great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Upton Brethren Church, 8490 Warm Spring Road, Greencastle, PA 17225, with Pastors Leon Meyers, Marvin Negley, and Isaac Burkholder officiating. The family will welcome friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., 725 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA, 17201, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
