Calvin H. Martin Obituary

Calvin Martin, 80, was received into the arms of Jesus on September 20, 2024, after a thirteen year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  He was born on March 8, 1944 in Hagerstown, MD to the late Hege and Luvinia (Eshleman) Martin.

He married Helen (Yeager) Martin during a very snowy day on January 29, 1966.  Calvin built their home in Marion where they lived for forty-eight years before downsizing in 2018 to their home in Chambersburg, PA.  The last two years of his life, he was a resident of Brookview Health Care Center where he was cared for by excellent nurses and staff.

Calvin was a member of Pleasant View Mennonite Church where he served faithfully for many years as a trustee, youth leader, and usher.  He was also a member of The Gideons International and a Life Member of the Marion Volunteer Fire Company.

For thirty-eight years, he was a self-employed construction and remodeling contractor.  In his spare time, he enjoyed serving and helping people.

In addition to his wife of fifty-eight years, he is survived by his children:  Greg (Lori) Martin, Marion, PA, Laurinda (Kirk) Martin, Fayetteville, PA, and Patrick (Julie) Martin, Chambersburg, PA.  Also surviving are 5 grandchildren:  Tyler (Tera) Moran, Kristen (Jeret) Akers, Hunter (Kasey) Martin, Chase (Lexy) Martin, and Logan Martin, as well as 7 great-grandchildren:  Brady, Ellie, Benson, Jack, Indiana, Deklan, and Silas.

Also surviving are four brothers Edwin Martin, Clair (Mary Catherine) Martin, both of Hagerstown, MD, Albert Martin, Chincoteague, VA, and Leon Martin, Clear Spring, MD, and three sisters, Louise Long Boswell, Gaithersburg, MD, Helen (Chester) Horst, Hagerstown, MD, and Dorothy (Richard) Rutherford, Mercersburg, PA.  He is also survived by a very close family friend, Anthony “Tony” Alexander, Bronx, NY.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Nathan Martin.  Also preceding him in death are brothers-in-law, Henry Boswell & Maynard Long; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Martin, Nancy Martin, Rosalind Martin, and Patricia Martin.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 6:00-8:00pm at Kelso Cornelius Funeral Home, 725 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA.  A remembrance of Calvin’s life will be held at Pleasant View Mennonite Church, 346 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 11:00am with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service.  The burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
