Carroll “Butch” G. Cool Jr., 76, of Mont Alto, PA, passed away April 2, 2025 in Chambersburg, PA. He was born June 26, 1948, in Westminster, MD, the son of Carroll G. and Mary Louise (Shatzer) Cool.
Carroll, a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, served in Vietnam. Some of the awards he received include the Purple Heart, Vietnamese Gallantry Cross, Combat Action Ribbon, and Presidential Unit Citation. On the battlefield he said, “God, I don’t know anything about You, but if You’ll keep me alive, I will do anything You want me to do.” This was the beginning of his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, who later called him to be a pastor. Carroll retired from the US Postal Service as an electrical mechanic on the postal machines. He was extremely patriotic and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking day trips with his wife, Mollie, and family. More than anything, he loved reading God’s Word.
Carroll is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mollie M. (Brock) Cool, children V. Joseph Cool, Barbara (Jeff) Smythe, Mary (Patrick) Cool-Crouse, Carroll (Kim) Cool III, and John (Shelley) Mehl; fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and niece Jennifer Brock.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 10 am, followed by a funeral service at 11 am at Freedom in Christ Church, 4042 Sycamore Grove Rd., Chambersburg, PA, with Pastor John Pogue officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Waynesboro, PA.
