Charles Ringer Obituary


Charles Ringer, age 79, of St. Thomas passed away May 16, 2014 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. He was born December 15, 1934 in Frostburg, MD to Herbert and Huldah (Smith) Ringer. He was married to Shirley Mickey on Dec. 31, 1955. Charles had been employed at Letterkenny Army Depot, where he had been a Supervisor in the Electronics Division and retired from DESCOM on June 29, 1990. He had served in the United States Air Force from 1954-1958. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, St. Thomas Sportsman Association, St. Thomas American Legion and the Chambersburg Elks Club. He received the St. Thomas Sportsman of the Year award in 1980. He was an avid trap shooter, receiving many trophies, and his pride and joy was having his son, Dan join him in trap shooting.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Mickey Ringer, their son, Dan (husband of Sherry) Ringer of Bridgeville, PA, and a number of nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Pritts and an infant brother.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday May 21st at 1:00 PM at St. Paul Methodist Church in Chambersburg with Rev. Rick Noll officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 till 9:00 PM at the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 L.W.W., St. Thomas and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be sent to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Ave., Chambersburg, PA. 17201 or to St. Thomas Sportsman Association, 595 Apple Way, St. Thomas, PA 17252 or to your favorite charity.
