Dennis Lewis Duffey Obituary

Dennis Lewis Duffey, 71, affectionately known as Denny, was born in Greencastle on February 17, 1954 and graduated from Greencastle-Antrim High School in 1972. He was remembered by many high school friends as an attractive and well-liked man.

Denny was a Chevrolet enthusiast from his high school years, known for owning one of the fastest cars around. He lived in Florida for several years near Destin and Fort Walton Beach, where he enjoyed the coastal life and was involved in the racing scene.

Throughout his life, Denny worked as a mechanic, a profession he excelled in and loved. Even after retiring, Denny continued to tinker and was the go-to person for friends needing help with their cars or lawn equipment.

Denny's greatest loves were his mother, Anna Marie Katherine Duffey Wingerd, his dog Kelly, and drag racing. He cherished driving his truck down to Bristol for the races whenever he could. He had several close friends in these recent years, including Matt Smith,  Steve Garland, Glen Hykes, and John Rudy.

Denny passed away at Shook Rehabilitation on March 20, 2025 after months of fighting congestive heart failure. Denny was preceded in death by his father, Richard "Red" Wingerd, on August 16, 2013; his mother, Anna Marie Katherine Duffey Wingerd, on April 3, 2021; and his brother, Kenneth E. Duffey. He is survived by several nieces and nephews: Angela (Tim) Smith, Jesse Duffey, Amy (Chris) Duffey, and Kimberley (Eric) Staves.

In remembrance of Denny’s life, any charitable donations can be made to the American Heart Association in his name.

There will be no formal viewing or funeral service.
