Doris Ray Obituary


Doris Ottilia Ray, age 92, of Chambersburg, passed away November 16, 2013 at Providence Place, where she had resided for the past sixteen months. She was born September 14, 1921 in Rossville, MD to Charles and Mary (Mohr) Heerd. She was the widow of the late Edgar L. Ray, who died in 1992. She was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, a frequent attender of Ft. Loudon Senior Center, and was a member of St. Thomas TOPS. She had graduated from a business college in Baltimore and worked at a secretary for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, Maryland. In 1973 she and her family moved to Franklin County.
She is survived by her daughter, Bernice D. (wife of Glenn) Crouse of Chambersburg, two granddaughters: Heidi L. (wife of Christopher) Myers of Mercersburg and Bethany N. Crouse of Chambersburg. She has two great-granddaughters: Amber & Taylor Myers of Mercersburg. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles W. Heerd and a granddaughter, Deborah R. Crouse.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Friday, November 22, 2013 at St. Thomas Lutheran Church with Rev. Warren Heintzelman and Rev. Valeria Schmidt officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 PM at the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., St. Thomas and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be held at St. Thomas Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be sent to St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 7061 L.W.W., St. Thomas, PA 17252 or to the Franklin County Library System, 101 Ragged Edge Road South, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 L.W.W., St. Thomas, PA will be handling the arrangements.
