Douglas Charles "Dj" Spoonhour Jr Obituary

It is with a broken heart that we announce the unexpected passing of Douglas Charles Spoonhour Jr., “Dj,” 35, of St. Thomas, PA.

Dj was born on July 13, 1990, a birthday he shared with his maternal grandmother. Dj was known for his kind and gentle heart. He had a quiet sweetness about him and cared deeply for the people in his life.

Dj graduated from James Buchanan High School in 2008 and also attended the Franklin County Career and Technology Center for Automotive Technology. He took pride in mechanical work and enjoyed anything that allowed him to express his artistic talents, build, and repair. He enjoyed tinkering with plants and succulents, as well as drawing.

Dj worked as an Auto Body Technician for 10 years before discovering his love of farm life. His most recent employment was at a dairy farm, where he spent his days milking cows and working outdoors. He especially loved the sunrise at the start of his shifts.

Something that always made him smile was when one of his favorite cows, #478, would greet him with licks.

Above all else, Dj was a proud father. His son, Kanin Charles Spoonhour, was the center of his world, and he loved him beyond measure.

Dj is survived by his parents, Douglas Spoonhour Sr. and Cheryl Long Spoonhour; his brother, Logan Spoonhour (Emma); his sister, Lea Spoonhour (Dylan); his partner of nine years, Samantha Swope; their son, Kanin Spoonhour; his grandfather, Gary Long (Beth); his three nephews, Jaxson Spoonhour, Weston Woodward, Dakota Wood, as well as many aunts uncles and cousins.

Dj also leaves behind his beloved dog, Hazel, who was a constant companion in his life.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeremy Spoonhour; his grandparents, Linda Angle and Jack Angle; his grandparents, Edgar Spoonhour and Mary Ellen Spoonhour; great-great grandmother Bertha Webber who called him Buster Douglas; and his uncle, Jerry Long. While his family mourns this loss deeply, they find comfort in imagining Dj reunited with his brother Jeremy, likely casting a line, sharing stories, and fishing together once again.

Dj will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy will live on through his son, Kanin, the greatest joy and proudest part of his life.

Family and friends are welcome to gather for a viewing on Thursday, March 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd. 6492 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with a visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 PM.

The family also recognizes the symbolism that Dj was born on Friday the 13th, 1990, and will be laid to rest on Friday the 13th, 2026.

Flowers may be sent to Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., St. Thomas. Memorial contributions may also be made in Dj’s memory.
