Eugene Omar, Jr. Obituary

We are sad to say that on Saturday April 8, 2023, our beloved son, brother, and uncle, Eugene (GeneO) Omar passed away peacefully at the age of 56, surrounded by his loving family, after a long struggle with ongoing health complications.

Gene was born on July 23, 1966, to Eugene and Jean (Rebtoy) Omar in Wayne MI. During his childhood he lived in various communities, finally settling in Lincoln Park, MI. Gene graduated from Lincoln Park High School in 1984.

Directly after graduation, Gene enlisted in the Navy. After completing rigorous and demanding training, Gene attained the rank of Quartermaster and began his Naval career. He was stationed in California on the aircraft carrier USS Ranger (CV-61) as the Assistant Navigator, and subsequently in Florida and Virginia, ending in Maryland as a Petty Officer First Class.

During his career, Gene’s accomplishments included numerous awards, medals and commendations while serving in locations such as the Philippines, Thailand, Japan, and Canada. In addition to serving on the USS Ranger (CV-61), he also served on the SSE-200 XML(Hovercraft), Wasp {Amphibious assault ship} and Sphinx (ARL-24)

Following a proud 14-year Navy Career, he joined with a Navy buddy-Steve Shaffer to venture into self-employment. After many years in business, Gene was forced to end his career due to health issues. Gene then moved to Crystal Spring, PA to be with his brother/friend and caregiver (Tony).

Gene was a great storyteller and prankster and always kept us on our toes. Gene was also like the overseer of the siblings. He kept a close eye on us and always wanted to fix things to be better. One of the things Gene enjoyed most was spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was like a big kid with a big heart when it came time to doing things with them.

Gene’s dedication to his family and friends was a true inspiration for all those who have been blessed to have known him.

Even though we mourn the passing of Gene, we celebrate the life of an incredible man whose mark on the world will not be forgotten anytime soon. May you rest peacefully GeneO.

Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Jean.
