Evelyn Washington of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania passed away March 6, 2023. She was born on October 31, 1943, in Rockaway Beach, New York to John and Cora (Brown) Dennis. She was Evangelist Evelyn Washington at Full Gospel Mission Church of God in Christ in New York, pastored by the late Bishop Jerome Norman. Her grandmother Corinne Brown gave her the nickname Tuffy because that's who she was. She was also known by friends as Red. She worked as a CNA and retired from Woodmere Nursing Home in New York.  

Evelyn is survived by her children, Valerie Mays of North Carolina, Rosalyn Shepard of New York, Carl Dennis of New York, Loretta Washington Cuff of Pennsylvania, Isaiah Washington of Pennsylvania and Laverne Battle of New York, one daughter-in- law, Jody Dennis of New York, two sons-in-law; Lawrence Cuff of Pennsylvania and Lemorge Battle of New York. She is also survived by her siblings, Henry Dennis of New York, Loretta Dennis of New York, Eileen Yancey of Florida, Sharrel Dennis of New York, Eric Dennis of New York and Loretta Hall of New York, as well as 28 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by a grandson Stephon Washington, two sons-in-law Rickey Mays and Darren Shepard, brother Gary Dennis, and two grandmothers, Corinne Brown and Olene Dennis, and grandfather Henry Dennis.   

A funeral service for Evelyn will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., 725 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
