Our Father, Frederick W. Jacobs, was reunited with our Mother Nancy on August 13, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones.
He faced the end, just as he did the beginning and middle of his life…with Faith, gratitude, humor, fearlessness, and healthy curiosity. His kind and generous Spirit touched all those whom he met.
He is survived by four children:
Jeff (Jill), Jill (Bob), Aniiyah (Fred) and James (Shinjoung),
4 grandchildren: Sean, Sara (Hayden), Nate (Ellie), Rowan (Jade, Bae, Micki),
2 great grandchildren: Theodore (Teddy) and Jacob.
three siblings: Barbara, Carol, and John.
Fred’s ease of meeting new people came from his experience as the son of a sailor… attending 13 different schools during his youth, and living in many different places. He loved to tell stories of growing up with his Mother, Grandmother and 5 siblings. He learned to love stamp collecting because it was something that he and his father did together.
Fred met Nancy on a blind date. He often told his children about that first date and how their whirlwind romance became a lifetime commitment rather quickly. When he received his military assignment (airforce) he brought Nancy to dinner with the family, and his Mother took him aside and said “if you don’t marry her before you leave, she will not be available when you get back”. And so he proposed, and they were married before he left to fulfill his Military assignment.
Fred and Nancy began their married life in NJ, and Fred began his civilian career as an Electrical Engineer. They lived in NJ, Harrisburg PA, Cortland NY and finally retired to Menno Haven in Chambersburg PA.
Fred was an avid stamp collector, radio communications operator, purchasing agent, loved singing with his family and alongside Nancy as she played the harmonica. He loved traveling and experiencing different cultures. He made over 30 trips to the far east for his work with Smith Corona and visited most of the states in the US including Alaska and Hawaii.
Once he and Nancy retired their lives became busier than when they worked… they volunteered in the library, swam regularly, sang with the local choir, participated in the lutheran church, and attended many community functions.
Fred was blessed with an amazing life. His last words were “90 years went by in the blink of an eye — it sure was fun!”
There was a private burial and memorial in Upstate NY per Fred’s request on Fred and Nancy’s 66th wedding anniversary, Thursday August 18th.
