Garland Summerall

On August 6, 2023, Garland "Buddie" Odell Summerall was led by his Heavenly Father's hand into his Heavenly home at the age of 85. He was born on June 14, 1938, in Washington County, Mississippi to W. Odell and T. Louise (Furr) Summerall.

Garland was a graduate of Cary High School and Wilson College. He enlisted in the Navy in 1958, serving as an engineman and a hard hat deep sea diver. He served on multiple ships and retired in 1978. Garland then worked for the Chambersburg Hospital and retired from Letterkenny Army Depot. His love for the Lord and people led him to him to many volunteer opportunities, one of them being at Penn Hall, Mennohaven. He served in the Dry Run American Legion Color Guard. Garland enjoyed traveling worldwide with his wife. 

Garland is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy K. (Weller) Summerall, his children, James Odell Summerall and wife Christine, Allan Lee Summerall and wife Kathy, five grandchildren; Victor, Megan, Jesse, Shannon and Jacob, one brother, James Gerald Summerall and wife Jane, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Garland is preceded in death by an infant sister and a brother S. Wayne Summerall. 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 12:00 PM at the Greenvillage Church of God with Pastor Matt Tosten officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at Falling Spring Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
