Gary Lee “Coop” Cooper, 79, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away August 21, 2024. He was born on September 22, 1944, in Chambersburg, PA to Maeford and Gladys (Weller) Cooper.
Coop was a 1962 graduate of CASHS where he was a member of the National Honor Society. After graduation, Coop went on to serve in the US Army, 25th Infantry Division, with a tour in Vietnam 1966-1967. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years.
He was a lifetime member of the Burt J Asper American Legion Post 46 and the VFW Post 1599, as well as numerous other Veteran and social clubs around town. He belonged to the Mason-Dixon Corvette Club for over 50 years. Anyone who knew Coop also knew his love of Corvettes.
Coop is survived by his son, Matthew Cooper, siblings Wayne Cooper and Kim Cooper Guyer (wife of Gary Guyer) of Chambersburg, niece Kia (wife of Ian) Weber, as well as two great-nieces Aly and Emy all of Willow Street, PA, and many cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved friend and companion, Brenda Orndorff.
A viewing will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., Chambersburg.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Parklawn Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Dale Lehman officiating.
