Jacques W. Weedon, Sr. ("JW") Obituary

Jacques W. Weedon, Sr. (“JW”) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 24, 1940, and was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 8, 2025. He was the son of the late Bessie S. (Weedon) and Eugene Hollimon, Jr., and Bill and Roxie Weedon (who assisted in raising JW), and brother of the late Martin L. Brown.

JW was married to Cynthia Miller for 58 years. He and Cindy have two beloved children, Anne E. L. Weedon and Jacques W. Weedon, Jr. (Barbara), and one beloved grandson, Jacques W. Weedon, III.

JW attended school in Frederick, MD, Washington, DC, and York, PA before enlisting in the U.S. Army. During his 30 plus years in the military, he served two tours in Vietnam and retired at the rank of First Sergeant.

JW, a dedicated veteran, community servant, and avid golfer, passed away surrounded by family and friends. He will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to veterans, his devotion to mentoring young people, and his passion for the game of golf.

He proudly held a variety of positions within the American Legion, most notably serving as the 22nd District Commander. Among his many roles, one of his most cherished was as Director of Keystone Boys State, where he inspired generations of young leaders to understand civic responsibility and the value of service. JW also served as AMVETS Department Commander for the state of Maryland. His leadership left a lasting mark on the program and the lives of countless participants.

Deeply committed to supporting fellow veterans, JW volunteered as a driver for the Veterans Administration Hospital, ensuring those in need received care and connection. His selflessness reflected a lifetime of service beyond his own military career.

Outside of his work with veterans, JW found joy in the game of golf. He not only loved to play but also shared the sport with others by operating a driving range and miniature golf course. As a proud member of the York County Black Golfers Association, JW celebrated fellowship, sportsmanship, and community through the game he loved most.

Those who knew JW will remember his humor, his kindness, and his dedication to making the world around him better—whether through service, mentorship, or a friendly round of golf.

He leaves behind a legacy of honor, leadership, and compassion that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. JW is survived by his loving niece, Martina L. Brown (Raymond) as well as numerous loving cousins and special friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 12:00 PM until 12:30 PM at Brownsville Church of God, 6390 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville, PA, 17222, with a service following at 12:30 PM.
