James “Jim” Raymond Hosking, 77 years old, passed away in the early morning of January 20th of 2024. He passed after his long battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Born on January 12th of 1947 in Morristown, New Jersey, he went on to lead quite the fulfilling life. He spent his adolescent and young adult years in Sherbrooke, Canada where he met his beloved wife, Jane, and they spent 55 devoted years together. He held a career in the Navy for 24 years and eventually retired as a Lieutenant Commander. He also held careers at several hospitals as a Plant Operations and Maintenance Manager, gunsmithing in his workshop, as well as a Mason and a Shriner. In his later years, Jim and Jane resided in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania where they made their retirement. As a man led by curiosity and the desire of knowledge, Jim held many hobbies including hunting and fishing, gardening, and recounting his immersive life stories.
His family was very dear to him and he was surrounded by many “girl germs”, but his girls were the light of his life. He was survived by his wife Jane; his siblings Linda Wright and David (Mary Ann Lubert); his daughters Lisa (Joseph Stanton) and Julie; his nieces and nephews Laura Wright, Michael Wright, Elaine, Collin, and Joey Lubert; his granddaughters Tyler (Matthew Doyle) and Olivia; and his great-granddaughters Ivy and Maisie. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy, and his beloved step mother, Elaine. Jim, lovingly known as Pappy, was a dear friend to many and will be enormously missed by those around him.
A funeral service will not be held, per Jim’s request.
