James "Jim" H. Jones, 78, of Fayetteville, Pennsylvania passed away January 26, 2024 at Mercy House of Chambersburg. He was born on February 3, 1945 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania to James Clair and Ella (Gelsinger) Jones.
Jim was a proud Marine, reaching the rank of Sergeant Major, who served in the following missions: One of 63 Marines on the USS Enterprise's Inaugural World Cruise, DI, Parris Island, SC, 3 tours in Vietnam, Mediterranean Warship Deployments, Operation Desert Storm, Senior Recruiter, USMC Honor Guard of Washington DC assigned to First Lady Nancy Reagan on several occasions. After retirement in 1993, he continued to serve as a board member of Chambersburg AMVETS and transporter for Veterans to the Martinsburg VA. He trained younger veterans to perform the honor guard. He loved and protected his family as well as his country.
Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judith Ann (Forney) Jones, sons James M. Jones, Brian L. Jones and Darrin S. (husband of Michelle) Jones, grandchildren, Brandon, Nick, Austin, Eliot and Trinity, one great-granddaughter Camille, and one sister Carol Ann (wife of Frank) Craft . In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Roselyn Fitzgerald.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., Chambersburg. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
