James D. Lane Obituary

James D. Lane, 91, went to be with the Lord on February 15, 2024.  He is survived by his wife, Dorothy B. Lane, of Fayetteville, PA.  Born in Anniston, AL on October 9, 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph Cleveland and Maude McClellan Lane also of Anniston.

His educational background included Anniston High School in 1951, an Associate in Arts degree from St. Petersburg Junior College, St. Petersburg, FL 1953, and a BS degree from the University of Alabama in 1955.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving aboard the USS Fulton, a submarine tender from 1955 to 1957.

In 1994 he retired from U.S. Army Depot System Command (DESCOM), a tenant activity at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, PA as an Audit Manager serving 21 years.  During his 38 years of Federal Service, he completed assignments primarily in auditing and accounting positions also at the Anniston Army Depot, Anniston, AL; the John F. Kennedy Space Center, NASA at Cape Canaveral, FL; the Logistics System Support Agency and the Major Item Data Agency also tenant agencies at Letterkenny.

After moving from Alabama to Pennsylvania, he became a member of the Chambersburg Baptist Church where he remained active in the Lord’s work for some 56 years.  He was thankful for the opportunity to serve the Lord in Alabama, Florida, and Pennsylvania.  He was active in the Keystone Baptist Association, the Baptist Resource Network of Pennsylvania-So Jersey (BRN) and the Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relieve with the BRN.

He enjoyed running and participated competitively in races sponsored by the Chambersburg Road Runners Club.  He ran for the Depot System Command Runners Club and continued running in retirement for fun and fitness.

He is also survived by two children, James Stephen Lane (wife April) and Carol Denise Lane of Fayetteville, PA.  He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers and sisters including two brothers Morris B. Lane and Joseph C. Lane, Florida; two sisters Margaret L. Anderson, Florida and Peggy L. Keppard, Virginia.

Also surviving are seven nephews and nieces; Ginger Lane Hanner, Florida; Diane Anderson Pollard, New Hampshire; Vicki Anderson Decker, New Hampshire; Linda Anderson Romboy, Florida; Gail Keppard Smith, Virginia; Joseph A. Lane and Paul M. Lane, Florida.  A nephew Gordon C. Keppard, Jr. of Virginia and a niece, Sandra Kay Lane of Florida predeceased him.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Chambersburg Baptist Church. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Falling Spring Cemetery. Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., Chambersburg has been entrusted with these services.
