James D. Leberknight, 91, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania passed away August 4, 2024. He was born on March 21, 1933, in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania to James and Silva Leberknight.
Jim was in the U.S. Air Force from October 8, 1951, until October 7, 1955. He spent 3 years in Germany. He was a life member of VFW Post 1599 where he was an all-state commander, a member of the honor guard and the board of directors. He was VFW District 21 All American District Commander. Jim was also a life member of the Amvets and Chambersburg Club. He retired from Jennings in November of 2016 after 28 years (“For A Deal Out Of Sight Ask For Jim Leberknight”). Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg. He was an avid Steelers fan and enjoyed hunting with his family. He and Helen enjoyed vacationing and going out with friends.
Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Helen R. (Miller) Leberknight, children, Sherry A. McLucas, Karen (wife of Charles) Johnson, and Todd A. (husband of Kimberly) Miller. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Justin, Ryan, Kristen, Jordan, Sarah, Randi, James, Kelsey and Taner, several great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Etta Jean Leberknight. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his first wife Joan Leberknight, sons James Leberknight and Rodney Miller, and brother Ronald Leberknight.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 1:30 PM, at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., Chambersburg, with Pastor Dale Lehman officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:30PM before the service. Interment will follow at Lincoln Cemetery.
