Jane Bishop Obituary

    Jane Margaret (Murphy) Bishop passed away peacefully on May 6, 2021. She was born on May 3, 1955 in Philadelphia, Pa, daughter to Thomas Murphy and Margaret (Hogenmiller) Murphy. She was the second of six children.

    Jane graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote, Pa, where she was a proud member of the drill team. Following graduation, she attended Manor Junior College. Upon completion of Manor Junior College, Jane attended and graduated from Thomas Jefferson University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Later in life, Jane went back and received her Master’s in Nursing from Penn State University. Jane started her nursing career at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and later transferred out to South Mountain Restoration Center in Mont Alto. She then took a job with the state and served many through the Office Of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services in Pennsylvania.  Nursing and helping others were part of Jane’s passion. Throughout her life, Jane took care of and helped many people. Jane entered the gates of Heaven on National Nurses Day.

    Jane was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Murphy, her mother, Margaret Murphy, and her older brother, Thomas J. Murphy Jr.

    Jane is survived by her two daughters, Lauren Elizabeth (Bishop) Armstrong (husband Ian Armstrong) and Erin Marie (Bishop) Molin (husband Andrew Molin). Jane was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was blessed with 4 grandsons, Alex, Nathan, and Ian Armstrong, and Ronan Molin.

    Jane is survived by the spouse of Thomas J. Murphy Jr. (Mary Jo Murphy), brothers and sister, Gerry Murphy (Suzie Murphy), Maureen Murphy, Paul Murphy (Dana Trostle) and Gregory Murphy (Kathy Murphy). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

    Jane was a devout Catholic and spent many years attending Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chambersburg. She enjoyed playing bingo, spending time with her family, strolling on the beach, and helping others through her life’s calling.

    A viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 12th from 10:00am-11:00am at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home (725 Norland Ave, Chambersburg, Pa 17201), followed by a Luncheon at The Armstrong household from 11:30pm-1:30pm, with the Mass of Christian Burial following at 2:00pm at Corpus Chrisi Catholic Church. (320 Philadelphia Ave, Chambersburg, Pa 17201).

    In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Corpus Christi in memory of Jane Bishop.
