Janet Smith Obituary

 

Janet F. Smith, 85, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania passed away September 21, 2020 at Menno Haven Nursing Home after a long battle with Alzheimers. She was born on July 9,1935 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania to Wilbur and Margaret (Peters) Diehl. She had began her working career at The Stanley Company and then worked at JJ Newberry's prior to working at the A&P and Superfresh, where she had retired from. She had also worked at the Dollar Tree after her retirement. She is a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and an active member of the Adoration Chapel. She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, taking long walks, and working in her flower garden.

Janet is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Burnell F. Smith and their daughter, Debra Carter of Chambersburg and her three grandchildren: Melinda (wife of Casey) Hurst of Chambersburg, John Carter of Tyrone, PA and Andrew (husband of Amber) Carter of Chambersburg. She has four great-grandchildren: Ella Hurst, Maya Hurst, Carter Hurst, and Brooks Carter. She is also survived by a sister, Marguerite (wife of John) Kneavel of Chambersburg and three brothers; Thomas (husband of Karen) Diehl of Fayetteville, Frank  Diehl of Chambersburg, and Gerald (husband of Vickie) Diehl of Chambersburg.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Monday Sept. 28, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Corpus Christi Catholic Cemetery. The family wishes to thank all of Menno Haven's staff and friends for all they did for Janet during her stay there, especially the staff at the Walden Unit. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Janets name be sent to Menno Haven Employee Appreciation Fund, 2075 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
