Jean Louise Bard Lake, 89, of St. Thomas, passed onto glory on February 2, 2023, at the Chambersburg Hospital. She was born on December 26, 1933 in Ft. Loudon, Pennsylvania to Andrew Ross and Pauline Catherine (Fittry) Bard.
Jean was a Godly woman who enjoyed working in her flower gardens, oil painting, writing poetry, playing piano and being entertained by her bird, Mickey.
She was a member of the St. Thomas United Methodist Church for 28 years and served as the junior and senior choir leader, and a Sunday School Teacher. For the past 43 years, Jean was a member of The Open Door Church, where she was a choir leader, Sunday School Teacher and speaker. Jean was a bible release leader for many years. She loved sharing the word of God from age 9 to 89.
Jean and her husband, Robert Lake, Sr., of St. Thomas, were married Feb. 3, 1951 in Hagerstown, MD. They were married for 64 years. She loved and adored her husband and family and was dedicated to her family, church and will be greatly missed.
Jean is survived by three sons: Robert W. (Margaret) Lake of Chambersburg, Barry A. Lake of St. Thomas, Neal D. (Sarah) Lake of Chambersburg and a daughter, Kimberly S. (Barry) Byers of St. Thomas. She has two sisters, Arlene Ryder and Marlene Rubeck and several sister and brothers-in-law. She has twelve grandchildren: Miranda Lake, Barry Lake Jr., Joshua Lake, Rebecca Heinbaugh, Wesley Lake, Steven Lake, Jennifer Lake, Drew Lake, Barry Byers Jr., Julie Lake, Michael Byers and Elijah Lake. She has nine great-grandchildren: Makayla, Emily, Noah, Kadee, Kaylee, Kiersten, Brooke, Tucker and Owen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, Sr., her parents, twin sons, Michael and Michiah, two daughters, Susan Ann and Barbara Jean and an infant great-granddaughter, Sophie Heinbaugh, and brothers, Robert Bard Sr., Ray Bard and Harry and Larry Bard.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the Open Door Church with Pastor Mike Sanders officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 PM at the church and one hour prior to the service Thursday.
