John Martz Obituary

John P. Martz, 90, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania passed away August 15, 2021 at Chambersburg Hospital.   He was born on July 31, 1931  in Knobsville, Pennsylvania  to W. Russell and Mabel  (Sharpe) Martz.  He  served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot where he was an equipment inspector and later retired from F&M Trust where he had been a courier.  He was a member of Hamilton Ruritan Club where he served as president for several years.  He was a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 135 in Chambersburg and Troop 138 in Hamilton Heights.  He was a member of VFW Post 1599 and the American Legion  Post 46.  He loved golfing  and was instrumental in organizing teams at Rocky Springs and later golfed at Caledonia Golf Course.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
     He is survived by his three children:  Vanessa (Richard Cloyd) Barkin of Roseville, CA,, Keith Martz of Chambersburg, and Bradley Martz of Gardiner, NY.  John has three grandchildren; Andrew (husband of Coreen) Miner, Alex (husband of Samantha)  Miner, Alyssa Barkin and two great-grandchildren; Madelyn Miner and Brody Miner.  He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Alice Largent of Houston, TX, and Darlene King of Florida, and two brothers; Ronald Martz of California and Arnold Martz of Mechanicsburg, PA and several nieces and nephews.  
      Funeral services will be conducted Thursday Aug. 19, 2021 at 1:00 PM at the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Chambersburg with Rev. Ron Cook officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.kelsocorneliusfh.com.
