Joyce A. (Foreman) Malone

December 11, 1930 ~ April 19, 2021 (age 90)


Joyce Ann Malone, 90, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully at SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Luther Ridge on Friday, April 19, 2021. Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John D. Malone, by one month. Born and raised in Upton, She was the youngest of seven children of the late Walter A. Foreman and Anna Mary Foreman, nee Copenhaver. A member of the Class of 1948, Joyce graduated from Lemasters High School. She married her high school sweetheart John D. Malone on July 11, 1951, Shortly before John shipped out to Germany to serve in the Army for two years. Upon John's return, Joyce and John settled in the St. Thomas area. Joyce worked for the Stanley Company off and on while she raised a family of three. After that, Joyce drove a school bus for the Tuscarora School District for over 20 years. Joyce and John continued to live in st. Thomas for many years before moving to a smaller home in Chambersburg in 2013 where they lived until September of 2020. Joyce and John loved to travel. They traveled across the country numerous times and visited many overseas locations including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Eastern Europe, Great Britain, Ireland , Egypt, Tunisia and the Holy Lands. They also spent a summer working in one of the Hamilton's general stores in Yellowstone National Park. Wherever they went, whatever they did, Joyce and John always developed lifelong friendships. In addition, Joyce and John loved planning Mystery Trips with their grandchildren in the Party Van. Mystery Trips were day-long excursions to local attractions that were kept secret from the grandchildren and only revealed upon arrival at their destination. Some of the grandchildren's fondest memories are of those trips. Joyce had a passion for knitting. Through the years, she knitted hundreds of items that she shared with her family, especially her daughter, granddaughters, and daughters-in-law. Joyce's creations earned numerous blue-ribbon awards at the Franklin County Fair. She rarely missed her weekly get-together with her knitting friends at the Yarn Basket. Joyce was an excellent cook and enjoyed having friends and family over for a special meal. She also enjoyed reading, antiquing, bird watching, playing cards with the Sweet 16 Card Club and, of course, spending time with her grandchildren. Joyce and John were faithful members of St. Thomas Lutheran Church where Joyce served in various committees and was an Altar Guild member for many years. Joyce was a member of the St. Thomas American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star 342 Martha Custis Chapter. Joyce is survived by two sons: Philip (husband of Sandra) Malone of St. Thomas and Thad (husband of Sharon) Malone of Carlisle and five grandchildren: Emily Johns, Will Johns, John Malone, Joseph Malone and Lily Malone, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved daughter and grandson, Ellen Malone (wife of Bill) Johns and Albert Johns, and siblings Ethel Brewbaker, Clara Rohrer, Jane Harrison, Paul Foreman, Arlene Swope, and Verda Rhodes. Joyce is also preceded by two half-sisters, Mae Fox and Katherine Happ. Funeral services will be held April 22, 2021 at 11:00AM at the St. Thomas Lutheran Church with Rev. Matthew Kayhart officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 PM at the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., 725 Norland Ave., Chambersburg and one hour prior to the services on Thursday. Interment will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg. In lieu of flowers , contributions may be made to St. Thomas Lutheran Church Organ Fund, 7061 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, PA 17252.
