Lois A. Wert, 91, of Chambersburg, PA passed away March 7, 2022 at home, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in May of 2021, and died of a broken heart. She was born January 13, 1931 in East Waterford, PA to Bruce and Mary (McMullen) Shearer. Lois graduated from Fannett Township High School in 1948 and married the love of her life William (Bill) Wert in November 1953.
Lois graduated from Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1953 and worked in multiple hospitals as she moved with her husband for his business relocations. Lois and Bill owned Dairyland Farms Restaurant and Dairy Store in Mansfield, PA and was a teller at Commonwealth Bank and Trust in Tioga County, PA. After retirement, Lois and Bill traveled to all 50 states and visited many National Parks.
Lois and Bill flipped houses long before it became popular. The family joke was that mom had painted and wallpapered almost every house in PA.
Lois was born into and surrounded by a large extended family and thus became a loving and caring woman, always having time for family. She loved sharing stories of her children and grandchildren with others.
Lois is survived by her three daughters: Susan (wife of Larry) Wells of Corning, NY, Constance (wife of Mark) Passmore of Pleasant Gap, PA, and Sallie (wife of Edward) Kemp of Chambersburg. She has 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, 2 brothers Clair and Darwin Shearer, and 3 sisters Mariam Love, Louise Shoop, and Margie Henry.
Funeral service will be held on March 11, at 11:00 am at Grand Point Church in Chambersburg, PA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Internment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Milroy, PA later that day. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Heartland Hospice in Chambersburg.
