Marguerite Josephine Kneavel

Marguerite J. Kneavel, age 90, of Chambersburg, PA passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. She was born on March 19, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Margaret (Peters) Diehl. She was a lifelong resident of Chambersburg. She graduated from Chambersburg High School and worked at J.J. Newberry until her retirement in 1997. Margie was an active member of the Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Chambersburg. She served as a lay minister taking Holy Communion to the sick and housebound and worked on the church’s Bereavement Ministry and in their Food Pantry program. Margie was committed to her family and friends and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often traveling to attend their various activities. 

Margie was married to the late John A. Kneavel on November 23, 1951, and is survived by her two daughters, Johanna M. Scott (Gary) and Stephanie J. Walters (James). She had five grandchildren, Jaeson, Jared, and Justin Scott and Gillian and Jakob Walters. She also had seven great-grandchildren whom she absolutely adored, Logan, Hunter, Brody, Granger, Emily, Tessa Jay, and Charlotte Scott. Margie is also survived by her brothers Thomas (Karen), Frank, and Gerald (Vickie) Diehl, her brother-in-law, Burnell Smith, and her sister-in-law, Eleanor Whelan. Margie was preceded in death by her sister, Janet Smith (Burnell).

A Catholic Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Church on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 10:00 am with funeral services to follow at the Corpus Christi Cemetery in Chambersburg, PA. A luncheon will be held by Corpus Christi’s Bereavement Ministry at the church after the funeral services. In lieu of flowers,  the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Corpus Christi Bereavement Ministry and/or the St. Vincent De Paul Ministry (Food Pantry).
