Marilyn Grunkemeyer Obituary

Marilyn T. Grunkemeyer, 85, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania passed away February 20, 2024 at Chambers Pointe Healthcare Center. She was born on January 14, 1939 in Starkville, Mississippi to Horace and Eva Mae (Manes) Trent. She earned a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1991. She volunteered with several charitable organizations throughout her adult life, including serving as a Guardian Ad Litem in North Carolina. She spent a lot of her life teaching, including at Peace College and UNC-CH.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Michaele (wife of Jim) Finegan and Joseph (husband of Tammy) Grunkemeyer, grandchildren Elizabeth (wife of Anthony), Nyssa-Marie, and Nathan. She is also survived by a sister Sandra (wife of Charles) Rothwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jerome Grunkemeyer.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Antiochian Orthodox Church, 2063 Lincoln Way E., Chambersburg, PA 17202 or to Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 326 E. Main St., Jefferson, NC 28640.
