Nancy Jane Burleigh Potter, 88, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, formerly of Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, passed away November 28, 2023, at The Leland. She was born on February 10, 1935, in
Scranton, Pennsylvania to William and Dorothy (Layman) Burleigh.
Nancy lived most of her life on Lime Hill. As a young woman she and her sisters sang as a quartet (Nancy was a soprano). The joy of singing followed her throughout her life and was a constant inspiration to us all. She was an extremely devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had a constant smile for every child one and all. She surely loved taking care of her home and family. Nancy gained much enjoyment in simple pleasures such as hanging laundry outdoors, sewing, gardening, canning and freezing vegetables, taking walks, viewing sunsets, listening to birds, reading, and working jigsaw puzzles. Her favorite TV shows were Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She enjoyed classic western movies and a good "who done it" as well.
She was an active participant in her community and church as well. At the Towanda Assembly of God she taught Sunday School for many years, sang solos on occasion, and used her tambourine vigorously! She also formed many lasting relationships through quality fellowship. Nancy volunteered in several other church vacation bible school activities as well. After working for many years at Wyalusing National Bank, she also tutored young people in the Wyalusing school system. Later activities included participating with local Pro Life events, Women’s Aglow, Wyalusing Musical Society, Girl Scouts, PTA, and Valley Chorus.
She was extremely energetic in her day and kept up with her husband Walt as they spent quality time together in a number of ways. They especially appreciated their time spent together in Florida during the many trips they took in the winter. Bicycling together was a favorite pastime for them. We shall never forget the vision of them riding a tandem bicycle together.
In all, she was a very giving person. Nancy approached life in a Christlike manner. She had a heart unto God, and a hand unto those in need. She was a gift as a wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. We will miss her always and love her forever. She was one of a kind. We anticipate a fantastic reunion with her in heaven.
Nancy is survived by her children, April (wife of Alan) Hendricks, Mark (husband of Melinda) Potter and Hope Jordan, grandchildren, Ogechi (wife of Roy) Durham, Amarachi Ubani, Nkechi (wife of Tony) Nwandu, Ekelechi Ubani, Anurichi Ubani, Izuchi Ubani, Tyler Hull, Benjamin Jordan, Rebecca Jordan, Nicholas (husband of Abby) Jordan, and Holly (wife of Kylien) Baty. She is also survived by a sister Janet Morrow. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Walter Potter, son Kevin Potter, and sisters Barbara Singley and Doris Howard.
Funeral services will be held at the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church at 11 am on January 13th with luncheon for family and friends to follow.
