Neil Handren Obituary

 

Neil Alan Handren, 84, of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania passed away May 9, 2020 at Evergreen Health Care Center. He was born on December 22, 1935 in Lynn, Massachusetts to Stanley and Gertrude (Dulea) Handren. He retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service. He later worked as a computer programmer in the banking industry for twenty-six years. For most of his life he lived in Maine and moved to the Mercersburg area in 2011. He enjoyed cruising, reading, and ushering for the Portland Symphony Orchestra.  In addition, he loved to spend time with his wife and his canine companion.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Gretchen Handren and their three children: Randy (husband of Maureen) Handren of Perham, Maine; Larry (husband of Allison) Handren of Portsmouth, R.I. and Julie (wife of David) Bell of Mercersburg, PA. He has eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a lifelong friend, Gary Getchell of Dresden, Maine. He is the last of his immediate family.
