Percy Samuel Rotz, 103, of Chambersburg entered into eternal rest on February 24, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 14, 1919 in St. Thomas Township, the son of William Curtis and Ruth Keller Rotz. He attended a one-room school for 2 years at Pleasant Hill, Williamson Consolidated School for 6 years, and two years at the former St. Thomas High School.
He and his wife, Evelyn L. Patterson, daughter of Fred and Alda Lohr Patterson, were married February 11, 1943 in the St. Thomas Lutheran church by the Rev. Marlin Bottinger. They were blessed with two children, daughter Glenda Jean Clepper (husband Darrell) of Carlisle, and son Alan C. Rotz (wife Patricia) of Orefield, PA.
Percy ran various farms until 1968, and then worked for Ryder Supply Company for 18 years. His hobbies were gardening, fishing, hunting, and woodworking (both furniture and carving), and in later years became a prolific quilter. He and Evelyn also enjoyed square dancing and RVing
He is survived by son Alan & his wife Patricia, son-in-law Darrel Clepper, and sister Evelyn Sites. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Evelyn (December 2010), daughter Glenda (June 2018) and brother Garnet. He was blessed with 6 granddaughters, 6 great granddaughters, and 3 great grandsons, and had a great-great grandchild expected in May. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Percy’s life will be held at 2PM on Wednesday March 1st at Fayetteville Otterbein Methodist Church where he was a member since 1956. The family will receive friends at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 725 Norland Ave, Chambersburg on March 1 from 10-11 AM, followed immediately by a service at the funeral home. Interment will be private at Parklawn at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Fayetteville Otterbein Methodist Church, 61 W. Main St., Fayetteville, PA 17222.
