Renate Elisabeth (Schonholz) Herman, age 88, of Chambersburg, PA passed away on January 8, 2023 at 4 :00 a.m. in The Leland of Laurel Run in Waynesboro, PA. Renate was born on December 17th, 1934 in Geislitz-Eichermuhl Germany. She grew up during WW II, attended primary school, receiving excellent grades, then worked, as a teenager, at Dunlop. She lived in Japan, Greece, Germany and numerous states in the US as a military wife, twice. She became a citizen of the United States in 1961. She was married to her husband Edward Herman for nearly 49 years. Renate was a beloved wife, mom, and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, word finds, reading, music, and polka dancing. She was a devout Catholic. She also enjoyed the occasional beer and her 85th birthday was celebrated within some local taverns. She is survived by her husband Edward Herman, of Chambersburg, daughter Karen Herman (Aaron Greene), of Chambersburg, son Michael Miller of Virginia, sister Brigitte Nix of Grundau Germany, and grandchildren Margot Greene, of Chambersburg and Christine Miller, of Maryland. She is preceded in death by her parents Wilhelm Schonholz and Anna ‘Freida’ (Hummel) Schonholz, her sister Erika Sommer-Schonholz, her brothers Evelte and Werner Schonholz and her previous husband Raymon Miller of the Netherlands. Her remains will be cremated and a service will be held at a later date.
