Robert “Bob” Markle, 76, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away September 1, 2025, at Mercy House.  He was the beloved husband of the late Sonia L. Markle for 44 years until her passing in 2012.

Born May 24, 1949, in York, PA he was the son of the late Earl and Loretta (Peters) Markle.

Mr. Markle was a 1967 graduate of York Suburban Senior High school.  He spent his career working in the areas of mechanical drafting and quality control.  He was a long-time resident of York, PA up until his move to Chambersburg, PA in 2016 to be closer to some of his family.  If you knew Bob, he was an avid sports fan all his life with loyal support of his Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles and University of North Carolina Tarheels men’s basketball.  In his younger years, he was active in the York area softball leagues, playing/coaching for several different teams and travelling up and down the U.S. East Coast competing.  Following his “playing days,” he was a long-time youth sports coach for basketball, baseball and softball.  Aside from sports, he loved the beach and always looked forward to a getaway full of sun and sand.  His favorite places to visit were Ocean City, MD and Stone Harbor, NJ.  In his later years, following the passing of his wife, he enjoyed a love for plants and flowers and developed quite the “green thumb.”  His “greenery” and tranquil water fountain will be missed by his neighbors.

Mr. Markle is survived by 2 children, Bradley R. Markle and wife Ellen Markle of Chambersburg, PA and Tracey L. Moxley and David Bailey of Delta, PA; 5 grandchildren, Lauren and Natalie Markle, Gavin Moxley, Darius and Camden Bailey; and a brother Jay Markle of York, PA.  He is also survived by a very special and loved “lady friend,” Sue Fleming, of Hustontown, PA with whom he enjoyed the last 8 years of love and memories.

Private services for the immediate family will be conducted through Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home and Crematory.
