Roy “Roby” Brandt Wingert Jr., 79, of St. Thomas, PA, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, after a long and brave journey with Parkinson’s. He was born December 21, 1946, in Chambersburg, PA, the son of Roy Brandt Sr., and Anna (Nenninger) Wingert.

Roby is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Jane (Poe) Wingert; children, Angela & Jere (husband) Hissong Jr. and Jamison Wingert; grandchildren Brandt & Anna (Angle) Hissong and Blake & Rebecca (Ford) Hissong; great-granddaughter (apple of his eye), Rilla Jane Hissong; sister Patti Wingert; a niece and nephews.

Roby graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1964 and was a lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren. Roby is notably remembered as an auto enthusiast, entrepreneur, and gifted mechanic – building several concept corvettes to topflight status. Taking a 1958 model across country to the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction was a highlight, as was building a 1966 model to drag race on local tracks.

Upon retirement Roby could be found on the farm working with his family in the fields, garden, and restoring buildings from the inside out. His technical skills to invent ways to make tasks more efficient was a consistent wonder to all of us. While on the farm he never missed a chance to take a break and have a sweet treat with Rilla Jane. 

Roby will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He certainly showed us through his journey with Parkinson’s - that God gives us the grace and perseverance to sustain the hardest of hardships AND that heaven changes everything. John 3:16.

There will be private services honoring and celebrating Roby’s life.
