Sonja J. Blattenberger, 79, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania passed away June 28, 2022 at Brookview Nursing Home, Menno Haven. She was born on November 30, 1942 in Cordele, Georgia to William and Zelda (Williamson) Johnson. She and her husband, Jack lived in Burnt Cabins, where they operated the Burnt Cabins Grist Mill from 1970 till 2007. They then moved to Chambersburg, where Jack passed in 2011, and later she moved to Texas in 2020. She married her husband, John (Jack) Daniel Blattenberger on April 3, 1966 in the Antioch Church, Cordele, Georgia. Later Sonja was a member of the Open Door Church in Chambersburg. She had graduated from West Crisp High School and later attended Georgia Southwestern where she received a degree in nursing. She had been a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.
Sonja is survived by her two sons: Michael J. (husband of Lynne) Blattenberger of Round Rock, TX and Paul E. (husband of Martha) Blattenberger of Richmond, TX. She has four grandchildren: Taylor Daniel (husband of Brittany) Blattenberger of Wilmington, NC, Margo Ann (wife of Evan) Laman of Washington, DC, Andrew and Alexander Blattenberger of Round Rock, TX, a great-grandson, Johnnie Paul Laman and great-granddaughter to arrive September 2022.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday July 5, 2022 at 11:00AM at the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Chambersburg with Rev. Matthew Kayhart officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
