Stephen “Steve” S. Pineo, 82, passed away in his sleep on Saturday,  July 11, 2026 at home in Chambersburg. Born June 9, 1944 to the late Paul  and Laura M. (Smith) Pineo, he was raised in Passadumkeag and Ogunquit,  Maine. He met his wife Suzanne M. Pineo (nee´ Bradstreet) while at the  University of Maine at Orono for his degree in economics. Married on  August 27, 1966, he and Suzanne enjoyed nearly 60 years of adventures  together. 

Steve went to work for the U.S. Army’s Supply and Maintenance  Division as a civilian logistics management specialist in 1966. He and  Suzanne started married life by moving from Maine to Texarkana, Texas, to  Detroit, Michigan, to St. Charles, Missouri, and then to Chambersburg in  1970, when Steve went to work at Letterkenny Army Depot. He and Suzanne welcomed their children in Chambersburg and called it home for nearly ten  years. The family moved to Vienna, Virginia from 1979 to 1981, while Steve  worked at the Pentagon.  

From 1981 to 1986, the family lived in Heidelberg, West Germany,  enjoying the travel, food and culture. Steve attended the University of  Washington in Seattle for his masters studies, then moved the family back to  Chambersburg in 1987. By 1995, the Army took Steve and Suzanne back to  Germany, on to the Netherlands, and to Rock Island, Illinois, where Steve  retired as the Director of Maintenance and Logistics for CEGE in 2002.  

Steve and Suzanne decided to settle back in Chambersburg. And once  retired, Steve really got busy, with a part-time job at Penn National Golf  Course, golfing regularly in local leagues, taking golf trips with friends  wherever there was a good golf package, and volunteering with Meals on  Wheels. He and Suzanne visited every U.S. state capital, and explored  Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand for their 45th anniversary. Steve and  Suzanne took countless trips to Maine and Canada to visit family and to  Hilton Head to golf and watch granddaughter Lizzie play on the beach.  

A lifelong sports fanatic, Steve chose the Cleveland Indians as his  baseball team in 1954 to spite his brother Paul, and the Cleveland Browns  became his football team. Decades of disappointment ensued. But hey,  maybe this is the year. On a more positive note, at age 79, he shot under his age (a 78!) at Carroll Valley in Fairfield. He never did get a hole in one but  tossed at least one golf club in a tree.  

Full of good humor and great stories, Steve was still sharp and had plans for one more move. Steve and Suzanne were in the process of building a single-story house in Scot-Greene for their later years. Typical for him to let Suzanne do the packing and moving herself while he goes ahead to the next duty station. Not one for poetry or long goodbyes, we’re grateful to have had a few extra innings with him. 

Steve is survived by his wife, Suzanne; daughter, Stacy Pineo Hurt (husband Warren), granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth Hurt, of Chambersburg; son, Jeffrey Paul Pineo (wife Jenn), of Charles Town, West Virginia; step-grandsons, Marck Footer (wife Madi), Dereck Ross and Deven Ross, all of Maine; his sister Barbara Hall, brother David and sister-in-law Elizabeth Margolis-Pineo, all of Portland, Maine, as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and cherished friends across the US, Canada, and around the globe. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Paul and sister-in-law Susan Pineo, and his brother-in-law, Wilbur Hall. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Orchards Restaurant in  Chambersburg, PA on August 1, 2026 from 1-4. Arrangements by Kelso Cornelius Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The  American Heart Association.
