William Wert Obituary

William (Bill) S. Wert, 86, of Chambersburg, PA passed away May 5, 2021 in Chambersburg. He was born May 10, 1934 in Vira, PA to Lee and Hazel (Leitzel) Wert. Bill graduated from Lewistown High School in 1952. He married the love of his life Lois (Shearer) Wert in November 1953. Bill worked for Agway, before owning Dairyland Farms Restaurant and Dairy Store in Mansfield, PA. He then started Wert Insurance Agency in Mansfield until his retirement. While owning Wert Insurance he sold real estate with ERA Homestead Realty. Bill was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hiking, hunting, and visiting National Parks. A travel enthusiast, Bill visited all 50 states as well as many other countries. Bill was a hard worker that loved building and renovating houses, woodworking, and helping others with projects. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and going to his grandchildren’s sporting events. Besides his wife, he is survived by his three daughters: Susan (wife of Larry) Wells of Corning, NY, Constance (wife of Mark) Passmore of Pleasant Gap, PA, and Sallie (wife of Edward) Kemp of Chambersburg. He has 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Marjorie Schell of Middleburg, PA, and two brothers, Donald of Belleville, PA and Thomas of Lewistown, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, and sister Nancy Mattern. Celebration of Life will be held on May 22, 2021 at 11:00 am at Grand Point Church in Chambersburg, PA.
