FAQ: Funeral & Cremation Costs in the Chambersburg area

How much does a funeral in the Chambersburg area cost?

Answer: The cost of a funeral in Chambersburg depends entirely on your wishes for the funeral and what funeral home you select.  Our funeral costs are much less than other funeral local homes and are made up of professional services, charges for transporting the body and embalming or presentation of the body, casket & burial vault costs, vehicle charges, and fees for the church, minister, or cremation process. Personalizing a funeral is also a factor in the cost. While we have many options to help you memorialize your loved one in a meaningful way, those options all have costs attached.

The National Funeral Directors Association states the national median cost of a funeral with a viewing and burial in 2021 was approximately $7,848 while the median cost of a funeral with cremation was approximately $6,9712: $7,045 (however, if a burial vault is required by the cemetery–and it usually is–the median cost can rise as high as $8,343). These statistics aside, the cost of a funeral service is wholly dependent on the specific services and products selected by the family member(s) responsible for making funeral arrangements.

How does the cost for a funeral ceremony compare to the cost of a memorial service or celebration-of-life?

Attempting to compare the costs of the three is rather like trying to compare oranges, mangoes and apples; it can't be done. Perhaps it's easier to see funerals, memorial services and celebrations-of-life as three points on a spectrum–a range, if you like–of ceremonial formats. At one end is the funeral; at the other, the celebration-of-life, and in the middle, the memorial service. The funeral is most commonly the most expensive of the three; which is especially easy to see when you consider the cost of the casket is a significant expense. The cost of any of the three is totally dependent on the choices you make during the arrangement conference.

How much will a burial casket cost?

The Federal Trade Commission states that average casket costs around $2,000. If you are concerned about casket costs, speak with our funeral directors who can advise you on the most appropriate casket for your situation and your budget.
